Estaleiro Atlântico Sul (EAS) prepares to undergo, during the first half of 2013, the last adjustments before the delivery of the Suezmax oil tanker “Zumbi dos Palmares”. The ship is the second commissioned by Transpetro to the company, as part of the program to modernize and expand the national fleet.

With 100% of its structure finished, “Zumbi dos Palmares” gets the latest equipment needed for the operation of instruments, electrical systems, and security. Points to be completed include the painting and installation of anchors, chains, and supplementary services at the bridge, at catwalks and in accommodation rooms.

From the cutting of sheets to the end of all operation tests, more than 1,600 workers have been involved in the project. These numbers reflect the size of the oil tanker, which has capacity to transport 1 million barrels, with a gross weight of 157.7 thousand tons, and has the maximum dimensions (274.2 meters long and 48 meters wide) to cross the Suez Canal.

In order to meet requirements of the Program for Modernization and Expansion of Transpetro Fleet (PROMEF), EAS went through a major restructuring. “The result of investments in training, infrastructure and security brought productivity and speed”, says the president of EAS, Otoniel Reis.
