Construtora Camargo Corrêa, for example, has already promoted 16 actions with the communities around the works of Jirau Hydro Plant, ranging from collective work at schools for improvement of physical structures to donations of books and celebration of special dates such as Christmas, Easter and Children’s Day.
"Making collaborators become interested in volunteering follows the company’s code of conduct, which tries to act with the communities around the works, with harmony, respecting their cultural traditions and always seeking to develop the locations where it operates", says Cristiane Tessaro, Human Resources supervisor at the company.
The proposal to generate social transformation through volunteering promotes citizenship and stimulates the development of a participative society and the practice of human values. A small action generates significant changes to many, as is the case of Floriza Bouez public school, in Guajará Mirim, which was benefited from the collective effort. "The school was in decadence, we needed a lot of help. The chairs were in terrible condition and the children complained of the heat, now we have chairs, central air conditioned was installed, a lot has changed. It was wonderful", commented Gigliane do Nascimento, who lives in the community.
An employee of the Social Responsibility sector of Construtora Camargo Corrêa, Luzia Pacheco says she is fulfilled for playing her role as a citizen. "Believing that we can make the difference and bring back the opportunity to dream for people is priceless".
Volunteering is increasingly becoming a two-way street: not only of generosity and donation, but also of openness to new experiences, learning opportunities, pleasure of feeling useful, creation of new bonds and statement of community sense. "Whenever you act with the community and practice good you become stronger as a citizen in search of a better Brazil", concludes Cristiane.
