InterCement, holding of the cement businesses of Camargo Corrêa Group, signed today, June 26, a protocol of scientific and technological cooperation with Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), from Lisbon, in Portugal.

The "More and Better – InterCement and IST for Technological Innovation and Development" program will last 24 months, and will be automatically extended for 12 months.

Innovating

The agreement is the result of an old partnership with Cimpor, which along the past 18 months, through several surveys and tests, developed a new family of clinkers (an intermediate product in the production of cement), capable of reducing around 25% of CO2 emissions associated to the concrete manufacturing process.

The new clinker technology, applied on industrial scale, will allow for a reduction of 4 million tons of annual global CO2 emissions by the company.
