The region was chosen after an analysis of the local social vulnerability and picked a group of surfers from the Barra do Ceará neighborhood to develop a project to generate income for the community.
Onda Empreendedora gathered 21 small surf board manufacturers in a cooperative. Fans of the sport, the locals were qualified to develop activities related to the surf production chain. The project’s partners also invested in the construction of a production unit, purchase of machines and equipment, and formation of working capital. In all, around R$ 850 thousand were invested.
The production unit, named Parque Fabril e Pranchas de Surfe, was built on a plot of land donated by the Local Administration of Fortaleza, and has 522 sq.m. In addition to the income generation project at the Cooperative, the Onda Empreendedora project will benefit the community with a surf school and hiring of local labor to work at the factory.
Onda Empreendedora is the result of an agreement between BNDES and ICC signed with the purpose of promoting entrepreneurship and the generation of decent work through the development of skills and competences of production groups all over Brazil, investing in the local potentials and in the opportunities of solidary economy.
