Cooperative of Fortaleza opens surfboard factory

The Onda Empreeendedora Project, a partnership between Camargo Corrêa Institute and BNDES, qualified surfers in a region under social vulnerability of the capital of Ceará and made the construction of the unit possible

The Cooperative for Production of Surf Services (Coopersurf) inaugurates officially, on June 5, the Surf Board Factory in the region of Pirambu, in Fortaleza. The birth and formalization of the cooperative, as well as the construction of the factory are part of the Onda Empreeendedora project, a partnership between the Camargo Corrêa Institute, National Bank for Social and Economic Development (BNDES), Local Administration of Fortaleza, Construtora Camargo Corrêa, Marquise, Sebrae-CE and Sistema OCB/Sescoop.

The project started with the mapping of 35 production groups in the sports, culture, textile and education areas that operate in the region. The diagnosis of the socially vulnerable region chose a group of surfers from the community of Barra do Ceará to develop an income generation project. Pirambu and Barra do Ceará are areas benefited by the Vila do Mar project. The coast re-urbanization works are being executed by Construtora Camargo Corrêa and Marquise.

Onda Empreendedora gathered 21 small surf board manufacturers in a cooperative. Fans of the sport, the locals were qualified to develop activities related to the surf production chain. The project’s partners also invested in the construction of a production unit, purchase of machines and equipment, and formation of working capital. In all, around R$ 850 thousand were invested.

The production unit, named Parque Fabril e Pranchas de Surfe, was built on a plot of land donated by the Local Administration of Fortaleza, located in the region of Vila do Mar project. The unit has 522 m², with spaces especially designed for manufacture, the point of sale (factory store), management, and a room for courses. In addition to the income generation project at the Cooperative, the Onda Empreendedora project will benefit the community with a surf school and hiring of local labor to work at the factory.
