InterCement employees organize various actions in Ilha do Bispo. Alpargatas concentrates activities at local schools
The sixth edition of the "Doing Good Day" in Paraíba, a volunteer corporate event that gathers all of the companies of the Camargo Corrêa Group, will feature more than 15 activities on August 24th. The actions have been defined in recent months in partnership with the communities served by Alpargatas Institute and at meetings of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Ilha do Bispo.
Volunteer employees from InterCement, their family members and friends have organized several activities to revitalize Ilha do Bispo. It is estimated that 7,000 people will be impacted by the proposed actions of improvements jointly with the community. The plans include recovery of the neighborhood football field, cutting weeds, installing goal posts, construction of a bridge and sewer work. The "Praça do Índio Piragibe" – site of cultural events in the community – will be revitalized and covered. Another public space that will be cleaned up is Avenida Redenção (alongside the railroad), which is currently full of weeds and rubbish.
During the CDC meetings, interventions were also defined at the Escola Municipal Frutuoso Barbosa (Frutuoso Barbosa Municipal School), which has a badly damaged roof and also needs repairs in restrooms, fans, doorways and other areas. The headquarters of the Associação de Moradores da Ilha do Bispo will also receive general renovation services. The building of the Associação Recreativa Cultural e Artística (Arca) – an institution that works mostly with young people and assists in the training and integration to the job market – will be refurbished. Volunteers will refurbish the roof, paint the building, and perform electrical services, among others.
Alpargatas defined seven municipal schools to conduct a group effort of school renovation. The actions will be held in the municipalities of Alagoa Nova, Campina Grande, Guarabira, Ingá, Mogeiro, Santa Rita and Serra Redonda. The Associação de Formação e Incentivo para o Nordeste Karente (Afink) in Araruna, and the Associação Pestalozzi in João Pessoa, will also be part of the actions of the Doing Good Day, with activities including recreation, social assistance and healthcare.
The Doing Good Day is an annual charitable event organized by the Camargo Corrêa Institute (ICC) since 2009. In 2014, a total of 13 companies present in 15 countries are taking part in the Doing Good Day. Around 22,000 volunteers are expected to be involved.
About the Doing Good Day
This is an initiative of the Ideal Voluntário ("Ideal Volunteer") program run by the Camargo Corrêa Institute, which encourages volunteerism among employees of the companies that comprise the Camargo Corrêa Group. Its main objectives are to contribute to a good relationship between the company and its employees and the community; to articulate with the public sector, private sector, and civil society; to identify talents within the company and in the community; and to celebrate the completion and/or the start of volunteer actions.
